our post
Post 8973 was founded in 1974 by World War II and Korean War Veterans who lived in the Uptown and Irish Channel Neighborhoods of New Orleans. Named after Alfred E. Flynn, a WWII soldier from the Irish Channel who was killed at the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines. Alfred’s brother, John “Fump” Flynn was an original member of the post.
our mission
To foster camaraderie among United States Veterans of overseas conflicts. To serve our veterans, the military and our communities. To advocate on behalf of all veterans.
Our vision
To ensure that veterans are respected for their service, always receive their earned entitlements, and are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of this great country.
show you stand for veterans
The VFW was founded for one, single purpose: to assure those who’ve protected our country are protected in return. This protection comes in the form of programs, standing up for veterans rights in Washington, D.C., and reaching out with help in communities across America.
The hard truth is, we can’t do this without your generosity.
Please consider making a contribution today.
